TEMPEST - detail
The design is obtained by binding threads parallel to each other around a pole (called “arashi shibori” in Japanese). Small lines perpendicular to the dominant pattern are introduced, to interrupt its flow and energize the composition. The result is reminiscent of the patterns that form in a lightning storm. The colour palette is limited to a few colours and their tints of different intensities, resulting in readings of foreground and background planes. Red, foreign to the palette, is introduced to bring interest and movement to the composition.
