SETTLEMENT 1 - detail
The cloth was dyed in two different baths, one red and one blue. The red was resisted with tied cord around a core, obtaining lines that suggest a water pattern. This is the river in the composition. The blue rectangles, the result of a clamp resist, evoke building shapes. Thus, the dyed shapes represent the natural and the artificial environment proper of human settlement. The stitching holding together these patterns are a reference to human life, extending beyond built form, reaching into the natural, but held tightly in a compact space.
